Title: Medical Director, Surgery Center

The Department of Surgery is seeking an outstanding individual for Medical Director of the Surgery Center sponsored by Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, the Department of Surgery and St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. This new Surgery Center will open on the campus of one of the two teaching hospitals of SIU SOM and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2010.
The new Surgery Center will occupy 16,020 square feet and include five operating rooms, 20 patient stations for pre-surgery prep and post-surgery recovery, two consult rooms and two waiting rooms - one for adults and one for pediatric patients. It has been designed to ensure that patients, surgeons and staff are provided with a state of the art environment that meets their needs in an efficient and contemporary manner.
The SIU School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery is nationally renowned for excellence in education, clinical practice and research. Surgeons in nine divisions offer comprehensive, leading surgical technology. The Department of Surgery currently ranks No. 1 in the United States in funded research among departments of surgery in community-based medical schools. - The Department of Surgery includes the following specialties: general surgery, vascular, urology, otolaryngology, cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Qualifications:
BC in Anesthesiology. Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the state of Illinois. Strong commitment to education and research. Demonstrated administrative and leadership abilities and, preferably, recent experience in an ambulatory surgery center. Academic rank and compensation are commensurate with experience.
