The University of Missouri System is conducting a search for the Assistant Controller for Sponsored Programs Administration with primary responsibility for providing leadership and management of post award sponsored programs administration for the University of Missouri. The Assistant Controller has system responsibility to develop, implement and manage accounting policies and procedures to support post award sponsored programs activities, as well as ensuring compliance with University policies and applicable federal and state laws and regulations. The Assistant Controller must also maintain awareness of changes in legislation and accounting standards, and determine their potential impact. This position manages the preparation of the Facilities and Administration cost proposals for the System’s four campuses.
Supervising a staff of two professionals and collaborating with campus sponsored programs staff of 20-30, this position must develop and implement methods of effectively communicating necessary information to faculty and staff in managing and accounting for grants and contracts funding. The successful candidate must demonstrate effective communication at all levels within the research community/University System and with external firms, federal and state agencies and regulatory bodies.
The University is seeking an individual with at least seven years of increasingly responsible managerial experience in post awards accounting including sponsored programs administration, and a BS degree in accounting, finance, or business administration. A MBA/CPA or related advanced degree is preferred. In addition, the successful candidate will need extensive knowledge of applicable federal regulations, policies, and procedures and laws applicable to grant and contract activity, including OMB Circulars A-21, A-110, and A-133. Previous experience at a large research university, exposure to PeopleSoft, and success in implementing systemic change initiatives are preferred. Strong leadership, managerial and interpersonal skills along with superior written and verbal communication skills are extremely important.
